Bella Napoli: Italian on a budget

A favorite amongst Japanese, Bella Napoli is situated on Soi 31. This Italian restaurant is kid friendly and good for small groups of friends, but not quite a romantic date spot. The restaurant consists 3 small dining rooms, making the environment a little confined and noisy at times. Reservations are recommended as the restaurant fills up quickly, especially on weekends and in the evenings.

We ordered Parma ham and Melon which tasted, well, as good as Parma ham and melon gets. The Minestrone Soup was a little bland but salt was only an arm’s reach away. The Greek and Rocket salad came with no dressing, but olive oil and balsamic vinegar were provided. This had its pros and cons - the proportion of dressing was self-determined according to taste and preference however, to fully mix the salad and coat each leaf proved difficult. Overall, the salad tasted fresh.

The Spaghetti White fish and Artichoke was decent, not too creamy and rich but the Spaghetti Truffle Cream won us over. Minced mushroom with truffle undertones and a creamy base. To top it off, the presentation of the pasta was interesting- a thin pizza dough with tomato sauce on top had been cooked over the top of the pastas. The first time visiting, the pizza dough was delicious with the pasta however the second time, the dough tasted waxy and looked unreal. The Lasagna was done well except the pasta sheets were a tad dry.

 On to the good stuff- pizzas! Prosciutto and Fungi Pizza was cooked well, the dough was thin and moist. The Venice Pizza was decorated with a display of a line of basil leaves (representing the river) and breadsticks holding up parma ham over (illustrating a bridge).

Overall, for the price paid, the food met expectations but wasn't astounding. When a customer mentioned they were cold, the waiter immediately pointed the air conditioning vent away from their table. Unfortunately, our exit was prolonged by a long delay in the bill.
